Behind the Scenes
Saltillo terracotta is a traditional Mexican ceramic tile that originates from Saltillo, Mexico. The art of creating these tiles dates back to the colonial period, some 450 years ago, when Spanish settlers introduced terracotta techniques to Mexico.
Local artisans adopted and adapted these Spanish methods, using the region’s rich clay to hand-mold tiles, which were then sun-dried and fired in kilns. This traditional method of 100% hand-made has not changed at all.
